Mountain Calendar
Complete listing of all Programs, Events and Retreats scheduled at The Mountain.
Welcome to our first electronic issue of The Mountain Matters! We are excited to present the new format of this beloved publication, which many of you will remember from its days in print. The electronic version will allow us to communicate with you about the work of The Mountain while honoring our commitment to environmental sustainability through the conscientious use of resources.

Because we know that The Mountain truly does matter to all of you personally, and because we believe that The Mountain’s work is so vital in today’s world, we want to share our stories and the stories of program participants with you. We hope that you will look to this publication to be informed about the powerful work The Mountain staff and program participants are doing both on and off The Mountain. We invite you to also share with us how your experience of The Mountain is helping you in the work of social justice and sustainability in your own communities and in the larger world. We hope The Mountain Matters will provoke insight into your own personal reasons for engaging in the work of The Mountain, and that it will incite you to truly make a much needed difference in the world today by bringing about humane, sustainable social change.

We hope The Mountain Matters will inspire you to be active in The Mountain community by Participating, Engaging, and Giving. P-E-G connects your experiences at The Mountain with the work you are doing back in your communities and in the larger movement. You will be hearing more about P-E-G in future issues of The Mountain Matters. Links to our upcoming programs as well as our full calendar are listed on the left. Please look at the exciting offerings and make a commitment to participate in a program this year, engage in the work of The Mountain and give generously. Your support is greatly needed, and always appreciated. And, by all means, share your stories with us!

Why does The Mountain Matter?
The Mountain believes that motivated, informed, and skilled individuals and groups who share a common purpose can transform the culture, especially when people of all ages are engaged. The Mountain, as a center for inquiry and action, works to answer the question, "How do we bring meaning, environmental sustainability, and peacebuilding to the center of our society?"

In the words of some of our program participants . . .

“I definitely enjoyed the experience, will come back, and will become a Mountain Member. I was most impressed with the feeling of the longevity of Unitarian Universalism, i.e., The Mountain has been the most promising unifying center for UUism, bringing me hope that our values may continue and spread.”
~ Kristin Moore, New Years Program 2007

“I take away deep insight into the complex process of developing skills for peace work.”
~ Kitty Herriott, Women’s Retreat Peace Workshop, 2008

“The workshop was most useful because we looked at what we mean by peace, and the skills necessary to bring about change, i.e., the systematic application of spiritual principles to the process of creating peace and justice in hearts, minds and institutions.”
~ Peace Workshop participant, 2008

“We found the Peaceworks Conferences to be both exciting and illuminating. They provided a clearer understanding with practical methods for dealing with peacemaking and conflict resolution. The expertise of all the presenters energized us to make a personal commitment to work on the mission of peace within ourselves, our community, our country and the world. We are grateful that The Mountain is taking this important initiative at this time.”
~ Virginia Carver and Hank Raichle, Interfaith Visions for Peace, 2005-2007;
Coleman McCarthy Program 2005

Our good friends and long time Mountain supporters Arnold and Marjorie Gelbin recently made a decision to re-invest their tax rebate in something that truly is changing the world rather than spend it acquiring ‘more stuff’. They donated it to The Mountain! Won’t you join them by putting your money where your heart is by making a sustaining contribution today?
