AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
The Christmas Eve offering and funds raised at monthly Gage Hall Coffeehouses help support after-school programs at elementary schools in downtown Charleston and North Charleston, schools which serve some of the poorest communities in Charleston County. UCC provides tuition assistance to families and educational enhancement programs for these students. If you are interested in serving on the After-School Action Team, please contact: Nancy Waters (ndwaters at comcast.net) or Bill Morris (bill10838 at aol.com) CoffeeHouseSchedule
GREEN SANCTUARY
The Green Sanctuary Group meets monthly at the Earth Fare Cafe in West Ashley. We have completed a “green audit” and are completing the preliminary steps toward filing for certification as a UUA Green Sanctuary. Watch this space for developments and let Jonathon know if you are interested in participating.
ADVOCACY
The Social Justice Committee supports those who wish to improve their capacity to advocate for social justice issues locally and at state and federal levels. For information or to suggest new issues, contact Laura Morris (lsm21643 at aol.com).
DIVERSITY – Looking for Leadership!
Our Diversity Chair has moved and we are missing the very interesting and provocative film and discussion series that were held on Sunday evenings in Gage Hall. We also support the Colleg of Charleston's Diversity Program (see SJ announcements). If you would be interested in helping, please contact Laura Morris.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH GIVING
UCC has recently started giving money contributed in our Sunday services to local charities. This is done through a competitive process that begins with nomination by a member of the congregation. Everyone is encouraged to nominate a charity. Forms are available in the Church office and will be placed periodically in Gateway. You may also receive a form by contacting Diane, Myrtle Staples, or Laura Morris.
