As members and friends of the Unitarian Church in Charleston, we commit ourselves to principled actions that honor the generations that have brought us here; responsibly nurture our resources, one another, and our greater community; and make possible the spiritual journeys of our church family and the generations to come. Our diversity enhances us, our love guides us, and our convictions strengthen us. Unitarian Universalism--open faith, open hearts, open minds.
Make a Financial Pledge
Our church provides so much: spiritual nourishment, a caring community, religious education programs for our children, wonderful music, fun special events, and more. Members and friends can give back to the church—and support new and expanded programs—through financial pledges. It shows that you are committed to the Church and our congregation.
With generous financial support, the church provides the programs and services that we value. Your contribution helps ensure that Unitarian Universalism continues to be a strong presence in our Charleston community.
Making and fulfilling a pledge can also be personally rewarding for you. It demonstrates you personally are committed to the Congregation, its Mission and its Vision
The Annual Budget Process
How Much Should I Pledge?
Pledges are confidential and are up to the individual. There is no set expectation, but we are challenged to give generously within our individual means.
Together our pledges make up a major portion of the income of the church. In that sense, we determine our own financial status by our giving.
How Will My Pledge Be Used?
Income from pledges is used to fund:
- Programs—Worship services, religious education, community outreach, and committee programs.
- Staff— FAIR SHARE salaries and benefits for our Minister, Religious Education Director, Music Director, Office Administrator, and Sexton.
- Operational expenses—utilities, maintenance, office supplies, insurance.
- Denominational support—contributions to the Unitarian Universalist Association and the Southeast District.
- Building -- preserve our historic Santuary
If you're a voting member of the church, you help decide how our income is spent. The annual budget is adopted by congregational vote, with plenty of opportunities for input.
How Can I Make a Pledge?
During our pledge campaign, all members and friends should receive a pledge packet. If you do not receive one, or to make a pledge at any other time of year, contact the church office.
