The Green Sanctuary Committee presents its annual Earth Day service with guest speaker Germaine Jenkins, CEO and Farm + Market Director of Fresh Future Farm. Germaine is a native of SC who was raised in Ohio. She moved to the Lowcountry with two toddlers to attend Johnson & Wales University. Her personal struggles with food insecurity fueled her passion to find affordable ways to grow organic foods. She worked for several years as nutrition coordinator for the Lowcountry Food Bank, teaching agencies and clients to incorporate more fresh produce into meals, and about gardening techniques and food safety. After completing Commercial Urban Agriculture training with Growing Power Inc. Germaine won a Feeding Innovation Competition and seed capital to start Fresh Future Farm Inc. FFF is an urban farm and neighborhood grocery store in the heart of a food desert in North Charleston. Health and wealth go hand in hand at this grassroots operation. Germaine leverages fresh produce and grocery services to create green jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities that address poverty issues.
