March is a special time in the life of our church—it’s when we come together to imagine what’s possible for the year ahead and commit to supporting it. This year’s pledge drive, centered on the theme Let Our Light Shine, did exactly that: it illuminated the spirit, generosity, and deep sense of belonging that define our community.
From the lively Kick-Off Sunday with the Chili Cook-Off to the joyful finale at Night to Shine, the month was filled with energy and connection. Each Sunday brought something meaningful—Rev. Rebecca’s inspiring sermons, heartfelt stories of belonging from members, engaging moments for children led by Emily, and music that lifted the entire sanctuary. Weekly updates on our pledge progress reminded us that every contribution, large or small, moves us forward together.
Rev. Rebecca’s messages—ranging from What Makes You Come Alive to Love at the Center—challenged and encouraged us to consider how we each shine: as individuals, as a congregation, and as a presence in the wider community and the world. These reflections were brought to life through personal stories. Diane and Stan Boyer, longtime members since 2008, shared a moving farewell as they prepared to relocate to Chicago. Newer members—including Jacob Hoyle, Olivia Jones, Rachel Fore, Sofia Reihman, and Heather Johnson—offered fresh perspectives on what drew them here and why they’ve chosen to deepen their commitment to our community.
Music played a powerful role throughout the month. The opening service had the congregation clapping and singing along to Walking on Sunshine and Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In. The following week, the Late Model Children filled the space with warmth and nostalgia through songs by John Denver, Bob Dylan, and Lennon & McCartney. Guest performer, Madelyn Knight, brought Broadway flair, closing with You’ll Never Walk Alone, while the final Sunday featured a touching duet of Somewhere Out There by Travis Jackson and Amy Pharr.
This year’s pledge goal was $427,900, building on last year’s milestone of achieving the first balanced budget post-COVID. While we may not fully reach our stretch goal, we anticipate closing at approximately $415,000—an encouraging $10,000 increase over last year.
Most importantly, the numbers tell a deeper story. To date, over 90% of the goal was met through strong participation, with many households increasing their contributions. The average gift grew by double digits, and participation rates reflected a committed and engaged congregation. In the end, this pledge drive wasn’t just about dollars—it was about dedication, growth, and the shared belief that, together, our light shines brighter.
