Join the staff of the Unitarian Church in Charleston (UC-CHS), an inclusive community of inspiration, love and service committed to creating a better world. The applicant need not be a Unitarian Universalist to apply but must be comfortable in a diverse environment working with LGBTQ+ people, Jewish people, agnostics, atheists, pagans, Christians, Buddhists, and more.
The Lifespan Religious Education Coordinator provides administrative and operational support as well as volunteer and childcare coordination for children's religious education, youth ministry, and adult faith development. Our Religious Education program supports members of all ages in their search for truth and meaning, their development of a Unitarian Universalist (UU) theology and identity, and their expression of our UU values in the world.
While some tasks may be completed remotely, in person work will be required at least two days a week - including but not limited to Wednesdays (10am-3pm) and Sundays (9am-1pm). Remainder of the hours can be completed at home on the computer and/or in-person.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruit, train, prepare, and manage volunteers to lead:
Sunday School, Sunday Forum, Family Circle, Connecting Circles and other Small Group Ministries, and OWL (every other year)
Recruit, train, coordinate and manage childcare staff
Serve as a resource for the faith development of the congregation across the lifespan
Collaborate with the Minister, Music Director, and Worship Associates on Sunday services and other worship and spiritual practice gatherings
Serve as the primary contact for Soul Matters
Participate in Unitarian Universalist Association events, trainings, and classes and share new initiatives and resources with the congregation.
Sunday Mornings:
Ensure the smooth functioning of Sunday morning Religious Education programs.
Find and share weekly Time for All ages in Sunday worship services.
Administrative:
Regularly submit announcements, articles and Social Media posts pertinent to religious education.
Maintain communications with families and various small group ministries.
Attend weekly staff meetings and supervision meetings with the minister.
Experience
Experience in volunteer management
Experience in education of children and youth
Self-starter, ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Experience in a work environment requiring a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism
Proficient in the use of Breeze or equivalent church management software or other people database system
Proficient in Windows, Google Workspace (G-suite), YouTube, Zoom, MailChimp, Squarespace, Facebook, Instagram, Canva, and Survey Monkey
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
