Poetry Church

with Al Black

Al Black writes poetry, hosts workshops and since 2010 has hosted over 1,000 poetry/music events in the midlands of South Carolina. He is author of two books of poetry, I Only Left for Tea (2014 Muddy Ford Press), Man with Two Shadows (2018 Muddy Ford Press); co-editor Hand in Hand: Poets Respond to Race (2017 ) and edited Tall Women (2024); was the 2017 Jasper Literary Artist of the Year; co-founded the Poets Respond to Race Initiative, co-hosted the Chewing the Gristle, a poetry chat Youtube series and has a weekly byline in jasperproject.org – Poet of the People.

Scott Morgan will be our Worship Associate,
South Carolina Poetry Society will give the Time for All Ages,
with music provided by the South Carolina Poetry Society.

Participants gather for an hour to practice insight meditation and discuss various aspects of the meditative path and its interplay with our lives.

 
10:30 AM - Nursery Opens, Annex
- For the summer, children ages 7 and under are welcome in the nursery until 12:15pm or the conclusion of worship.

This June, you have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on federal policy, opposing this administration’s efforts to enact a proposed Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rule that would strip safety protections from federally funded shelters for transgender, nonbinary, two-spirit, and intersex people.

🌷Call for RE Volunteers
Be part of the fun, wisdom, and connection of our RE program!  We are looking for volunteers to teach or support our Elementary and Youth RE programs next year. 
Previous teaching experience is not required. 
Lesson plans and materials are provided. Just show up, facilitate, and be a supportive presence. 🙏

Blessing box donations can be placed directly in the box, if there is room, or in the storage cabinet in the back storage area of Gage Hall (where the folding chairs are stored.) Throughout the week, staff will refill the box outside as space allows.
